What would Martha cook if she was a part of this generation? Well, she’d be prepared with her menu and grocery list (with all the savings she could glean). She’d have her meals on the table just in time for the family to sit down and enjoy one another. She’s the time management expert of the kitchen. Her plans are laid out, so she never fears being caught unprepared. After her heart-to-heart talk with Jesus, Martha has learned that she needs to set aside time to be still in His Presence. So she plans ahead.
I have been thinking for awhile that it would be so awesome to simply download some great recipes that are healthy for my family and cost effective to boot. So I thought of a resource that would enable others to pick some menu choices for their families, complete with grocery lists. And not only that, you can also try meals that other families enjoy. We will find some treasures! And you know, I DO love a treasure hunt!!
So here’s the plan:
Anyone may participate and share their recipes. Simply contact or email me. Your recipe will become a post on this blog. I will then add you as a team member, but you must let me know that you want to be one!
Anyone may simply glean recipes from this blog without sharing. We hope everyone will share, but the fact is not everyone has time for that–and we do need to learn from Martha’s lesson!
The recipes must include the title, the type of recipe (appetizer, veggie, main course, etc.), how to make it and the grocery list for your recipe.
A photo of the final product would be a nice touch. Another extra you may want to add would be meal suggestions. What do you generally serve with your recipe?
I will take responsibility for posting the recipes. I may make a few changes, like for spelling, and I might post a graphic or picture. Also, I will sort each post by topic according to type of recipe.
Over time, I would like to create down-loadable calendars with various menus. Sometimes, I will share the things with which we like to cook–how to use it and care for it. I am hoping the comments on these days will give us some ideas for must-have purchases.
Also, I think that we will have a topic for “fast food” at home. This will include crock pot recipes that can be prepared in the morning and ready by suppertime, as well as really quick preparation recipes that make a great meal in just a few minutes.
I am not good at saving money while grocery shopping, so I am hoping to glean some great new habits from you all. However, I am a seasoned cook (smile!). I found out early that Chris comes from a long line of really good cooks…so I set forth to become one. Also, I worked at a kitchen store at A&M, where we did many cooking classes. I even took a food handlers’ class, so I could take part in the teaching. I have a wealth of cookbooks and great recipes, which I’ll share. Also, I have tons of kitchen supplies–some I use and some I don’t. I’ll tell you why!
This is a work-in-progress (just like me!), so it may morph over time. I hope this resource adds more time in your day for important things, like being still before the LORD and spending time with Him, reading His Word. I think Martha would say that is the best way to begin.
So who would like to participate in What Would Martha Cook? Let me know! I will begin with recipes immediately.
